It’s only been legal since July, but Seattle, Washington now boasts two recreational marijuana stores. Daily sales are averaging almost $14,000 -- generating roughly $3,500 per day, or $1.27 million a year in tax revenues for the city that gave us Starbucks. Obviously, as we get more, the revenues per pot shop are going to drop, but isn’t it way better that the money raised goes to the community rather than to criminals? It’s the economy stupid! State Representatives in Pennsylvania are just saying no to cancer patients, along with those suffering from seizures, or in need of pain relief. Although state-Senators have approved a medical marijuana bill in the Keystone state, the state-Reps couldn’t move their collective butts quickly enough to bring the bill to the floor of the House before the current legislative session adjourns. Although the plan won the support of all the Democrats and 20 of the 27 Republicans in the Pennsylvania Senate, House spokesman Steve Miskin told reporters that, “there is no intention of bringing that legislation up for a vote.” For Shame… In Delaware, medical marijuana laws have been on the books since 2011, but the first medical marijuana dispensary is not set to open until 2015. However, a recent poll by the University of Delaware suggests that 56 percent of Delawareans want more, and support legalizing and regulating small amounts of cannabis for recreational use. Professor Paul Brewer says that the numbers suggest solid support for fully legalizing marijuana in Delaware, and that the results reflect what’s going on in public opinion at the national level. The numbers break down exactly as expected: Young liberals support legalization by around 73 percent, while conservatives over 60 are only 39 percent in favor. The political consequences of this are clear: Young people don’t vote, so the Governor is not about to risk his job trying to legalize weed. It’s time to get up off the couch folks. Ultimately, it doesn’t matter if you live in Pennsylvania, Delaware, Florida or wherever. If you don’t get your ass to the polling booth on November 4 and vote for the most pot friendly candidate on the ballot you are part of the problem. What do you think; will financial incentives push lawmakers toward legalizing weed in more states? Or, will marijuana enthusiasts become a political force to be reckoned with? Comment below and let us know. Thanks for watching 420 Today, and don’t forget to subscribe…
