Bill Russo's video: Lights Out - The TV Show - Mrs Manifold - Host Frank Gallop

@Lights Out - The TV Show - Mrs. Manifold - Host Frank Gallop
In this 1951 episode, a very young Leslie Nielsen (Please don’t call him Shirley!) and a grizzled veteran actor named J. Pat O’Malley star in ‘Mrs. Manifold.’ The bulky lady runs a boarding house catering to sailors on the London waterfront in the 1890s. Her husband went missing after canoodling with a local wench. People say Mrs. Manifold, who found out about the peccadillo, had the strength to break him in two, and some think she did. J. Pat and ‘Don’t call me Shirley’ are two roomers who wonder if she really did Lights Out was one of the most popular shows on radio from the 1930s up to the late 1940s and it survived on radio in re-runs well into the 1970s. The TV version had four seasons, from 1946 to 1952. Early TV shows were live and were pretty much held prisoner to a small stage and a single camera. The quality couldn’t match that of the radio programs – but still, vintage TV is interesting if you don’t mind its prehistoric look. Then too, it is always interesting to watch someone like Leslie Nielsen, who waded in shallow waters for many years before finally getting Class A status in Airplane and the Naked Gun Series.
