Sangrienta disputa entre el CJNG y Los Chapitos estaría ligada a la ejecución del regidor de Tecate Alfonso Zacarías Rodríguez, quien fue emboscado en el estacionamiento de un comercio localizado en el Callejón Libertad, esquina con la calle Lázaro Cárdenas, en la zona centro. Zacarías Rodríguez, según ha informado la Agencia Fronteriza de Noticias, había sido amenazado; sin embargo, no presentó denuncia ante las autoridades correspondientes.
