Duterte: "Wala nang aral, laro na lang" MANILA (FYT, May 26, 2020) - It is "useless" to talk about the opening of classes while the vaccine against COVID-19 is not yet available, President Rodrigo Duterte said on Monday night, May 25. “Bahala nang 'di makatapos. For this generation, wala nang (makakatapos) na doktor, pati engineer. Wala, kasi hindi na, wala nang aral. Laro na lang. Unless I am sure that they are really safe,” according to Duterte. Duterte made the statement even as the Department of Education (DepEd) is preparing for the opening of classes on August 24. The Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases has earlier approved a resolution to officially start school year 2020-2021 on August 24. ▪️ DepEd: "August 24 does not mean that learners will go to school" For the upcoming school year, DepEd is introducing "learning delivery modes" that include face-to-face interaction between the teacher and students, distance learning, and a mix of both methods. "Depending on the risk severity factor, each school in the community will have to decide whether to do blended learning or strictly distance learning," Bureau of Curriculum Development Director Jocelyn Andaya said at FYT's webinar on Friday, May 22. DepEd also clarified that the opening of classes does mean classes will be held in schools already. "Please take note that August 24 does not mean that learners will go to school physically.
