The Nanchang Q-5 NATO reporting name: Fantan and also known as the A-5 manufactured by Nanchang Aircraft Mfg.Co is a Chinese-built jet ground-attack aircraft based on the Soviet MiG-19 and developed from the Shenyang J-6. The Nanchang Q-5 saw its action at the phase of the Afghan civil war between 1996 and 2001. The Nanchang Q-5 can climb at a rate of 103m/s and has a maximum speed of 1210km/h (751mph). The maiden flight of the Nanchang Q-5 took place on the 4th of June 1965 and it went into service in 1970. Primary users were the PLA Air Force, Pakistan Air Force and Myanmar Air Force. There were approx. 1,300 Nanchang Q-5 produced between 1969 and 2012. The Nanchang Q-5 is already retired from its service in 2011 to the Pakistan Air Force and it is out of production but still active in service in some Air Force.
