Ferroequinology's video: Lowboy and Other Neat Rolling Stock 2017

@Lowboy and Other Neat Rolling Stock (2017)
Filmed on October 30, 2017 at 4:15pm Sometimes you just have to get excited. Look what came northbound through Barrington Illinois. I love mixed freights for exactly this reason. 1:52 "Lowboy" flatcar used to carry extra tall or heavy loads. Then: Some MOW (Maintenance of Way) flatcars with (very uneven) track on them, used to transport repair equipment. The last one has a folded-up ramp for loading from the track. Note the old style of the ramp, which rolls up onto the end of the car. The new ones are a single piece which is winched onboard and takes up the entire last flatbed, but is stronger and provides a lesser grade up onto the train. Also note how uneven the rails are; these flatcars might be on their way to be taken out of service. 2:40 An ancient, rusting covered hopper from another age, which fittingly seems to get blasted by sand for the umpteenth time. 3:20 Why do the bays start half-way up the side of the car? Does anyone know what this is used for? 4:30 While filming I must've thought this was a lumber car (center-beam flatcar) loaded with lumber. Upon closer inspection, it's actually a high-end flatcar carrying… who knows? 5:05 That flat spot on the wheel of the second-to-last car was actually really loud in person. The coupler is also quite rusty. Quite an interesting train!
