We all know that we should not get carried away by appearances, but in many cases they are too great a barrier to entry. That they say it to the Ford Edsel (1958), whose peculiar frontal one was worth the nickname of vagina face. But it is only the first of a long list of problems: it did not have much power, it consumed fuel like a madman, the mechanical breakdowns were everywhere, the doors did not close well, the paint tended to crack, the battery was discharged ... a real gem . If flying cars have always been around the mind of manufacturers, amphibious cars have always been on par. One of the most successful was the Amphicar, a model that developed with relative ease both on land and at sea (only going to 11 km / h), but had a major failure: its buoyancy. And it was that not to sink in the water depended exclusively on the fact that the bilge pump was able to maintain the rhythm of water entry to dislodge it. Who else and who least heard about the Peel P-50, the smallest car in the world. But surely less know their evolution, the Peel Trident. They should have thought that this dome, in the style of the Supersonic spacecraft, would create a greenhouse effect that made it practically impossible to stand inside the cabin on a sunny and hot day. This one sure will sting more than one, but there it goes: the DeLorean DMC-12. Let's leave aside all the nostalgic factor added by Back to the Future and let's be serious: it was too expensive for what it offered, it weighed more than it had to and its engine suffered lack of power for the sports car that it should be. And that's for not going into all the drama that took place in the company after its production. The GM EV1 was the victim of a thought that fortunately has been corrected today: that electric vehicles had to be rare in their design. Their intentions were praiseworthy, to end fossil fuels, but unfortunately for General Motors, in 1997 the technology applied to electric cars was not yet mature enough to result in a viable production vehicle. The Fiat Multipla (the original) is one of the perennial models in this type of lists. It is the clear example of how an unwise aesthetic can shatter a quite successful concept. His proposal of minivan with six seats was correct, and we speak of a really spacious interior thanks to its almost vertical sides, but it is difficult to get to keep an eye on the passenger compartment when the exterior is so damn peculiar. Those headlights on the hood, anchored in the pillars A, caused more than one nightmare in his day. This one sure will sting more than one, but there it goes: the DeLorean DMC-12. The Pontiac Aztek follows the same course and is that, much as it has now become a cult vehicle for the success of Braking Bad, has been reviled for years. And it is understandable, since it is a difficult car to look at from any angle. The best (or the worst) is that it was actually a pretty solvent vehicle. Do not worry, soon we will expand the list with so many "privileged" more models that enter without problems into the worst cars in history.
