T Nagar market review and shopping and street food experience at Ranganathan Street in Chennai. Thyagaraya Nagar, commonly known as T. Nagar, is a very affluent commercial and residential neighbourhood in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. It was constructed between 1923 and 1925 by the Madras Presidency government of the Raja of Panagal as a part of town planning activities initiated according to the Madras Town Planning Act of 1920. The town was named after P Tyagaraya chetty. Initially built as a residential neighbourhood, it is now considered the largest shopping district in India by revenue. The T Nagar Market is an Unorganized shopping area spread around the region of Ranganathan Street. It is known for its plethora of saree and jewellery retailers, including Pothys, Nalli Silks and Saravana Stores.There are in fact Saravana Stores in almost every street. They are huge retail shops selling all kinds of household goods. One must visit T nagar If they are in Chennai for shopping. Here you can get a taste of the authentic local Chennai culture. We started our walking tour from Ranganathan Street and walked towards the other end of the market. There we had a bowl of fried Cabbage and cauliflower and some Banana pakodas (chops). Then we went to buy some Jewelry and after that headed to the outer market by the main road, we saw saree shops, gold shops, people selling flowers on the footpath. There were fresh cut fruiit stalls selling mango, jackftuit, melons and coconut . we bought a germinated coconut, it was tasty. Then we had some more street food, a veg cutlet , a glass of grape juice, and a combo softy ice cream before heading down to Pondy bazaar at Thyagaraya Road.
