So I chose “Hallelujah”, knowing it’s a secure fan favorite and easy to learn. Then the magic happened: While writing my very own version I just could not stop playing it. I fell in love with the sound of the chords on my felted piano. It was like a warm embrace, and though I am playing peaceful piano tunes all the time (“It’s the job”), Cohens melody had a particularly strong healing effect on me. So I sat at the piano for hours, just repeating the composition over and over again, moving to another peaceful state of mind, completely losing my grip on time. So what can be learn from a song that has been covered a million times? To be honest? Nothing! But we can feel it and let our fandom speak: “Thank you Leonard for the timeless healing melody. I wish I wrote that!”
