Michael Laprarie's video: Barney Trimble and his Oklahomans - Bashful Baby 1929

@Barney Trimble and his Oklahomans - "Bashful Baby" (1929)
"Barney Trimble and his Oklahomans" is really a unit from the Ben Selvin Orchestra. On this record, the musicians probably include Manny Klein on trumpet and Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey. Most likely it is Tommy Dorsey playing the trombone solo near the end of the record. "Diva" was a budget label from Columbia Records that did not pay royalties to Western Electric in order to use its electrical recording system. So even when this record was made, Diva sides were still being cut on the last remaining acoustical recording equipment at the Columbia studios in New York. However this was one of the last acoustical Divas recorded. Recording date is August 15, 1929. The singer is Irving Kaufman. Played back on a Victor Orthophonic Victrola, Mode. 4-4E, the "Granada", circa 1926. This model was equipped with the special Orthophonic diaphragm and soundbox that was specifically designed to play back electrically recorded phonograph records. But it also came equipped with an electric motor instead of a spring would mechanism. A medium tone phonograph needle was used for playback, and the Victrola horn was recorded using a Shure SM571 compact dynamic microphone.
