Mick McCleery's video: Doctor When 2021 a 48hour film project New Haven CT

Required Elements (New Haven 48 hour Film Project - 2021) Character: Vincent Bolton - Olympic Alternate Prop: A microphone Line of Dialogue: “I’m kind of a big deal.” THE PLOT: Vincent Bolton is not having a good life… and he reckons it’s all because of his failure to make the Olympic team more than 30 years ago - alas, he could only get as far as being an alternate. When ‘Doctor When’ (pun intended) offers him a chance to change his fate will he jump at the chance? To further complicate matters, ‘The Un-doer’ is waiting in the wings! THE STORY: This would be my 16th 48-Hour Film Project (started with ‘The Song of the South Trail’ way back in 2010). We ended up joining the New Haven festival as Philly still wasn’t running one due to covid. Speaking of covid - as this was the Summer of 2021 and things were better, people were still being quite cautious - we didn’t have any issue that affects our shoot though. Though we did get sort of a ‘covid bonus’ in that that we did not have to travel three plus hours to New haven for the kick-off as they were still doing it virtually (in the past teams always had to have at least one member at the kick-off in the host city), so we were able to make our movie in NJ and still be in the New Haven fest - we did travel up a week later for the big screening at the Bijou though! That theater rocks! TECHNICAL STUFF: Not too much craziness here. Shot on the good old Panasonic GH4 DSLR in 4K and edited in Premiere Pro. Used a Red Giant VHS filter to achieve the ‘1987’ look. Also, for some FX scenes, one can see that I still love exploiting the 4K resolution to mimic camera moves. NEW TWISTS: Not really a ‘twist’ - but I’m a big fan of the idea of the ‘Un-Doer’ - I think he may deserve a stand-alone film! REFLECTION: Even though this is an obvious parody/homage to ‘Doctor Who’, which I’ve really never watched (though my daughter did get me to take her to one of the theater events in 2013-ish) I probably would have dropped using the term ‘Time Lord’ which I have since been told is a ‘Doctor Who’ thing - when I was writing it I thought I came up with it. Ha ;-D Also funny to me after watching the film is that my character (at least the adult version of my character - the one played by me) never gets out of his seat for the whole movie. I don’t know that that has ever happened in anything I've made before - so that’s kind of interesting. My last thought is on the music - great stuff once again provided by Joe Crud - but I feel like I need to re-mix it so it dips out at a place or two… just to give it some balance.
