Transcript: We’re once again beginning the process of finding a development partner for 505 West Chapel Hill Street. The four-acre property and its existing building were once home to the Home Security and Life Insurance Company and most recently our Police Department Headquarters. The City Council has authorized staff to issue a Request for Qualifications to find a developer that would be able to deliver on our priorities for the site. Those include providing a minimum of 80 units of affordable housing, consider preserving the existing Milton Small Building, and delivering a mix of uses so that it serves as an economic driver for Durham. In addition, the Council wants a signature design for the space as well as a museum or other placemaking element to celebrate the West End history and Hayti legacy, and for the property to generate a long-term financial return to us. The RFQ will be distributed to prominent local, regional, and national real estate developers.
