@4 TIPS FROM MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE, if you want to buy a bike online or instore
In my latest video I'm checking the Giant Stance e+ e-MTB. How high will it take ME on one charge?? Check it out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YwiLPlmRFQY --~-- Today I have to go to the city to pick up the bike that I ordered online from my local bike shop. To find out 4 more things I wish I knew before buying my bike online, stay tuned for the rest of this video! Alright, let’s talk about topic number 1 that you need to know, when buying your mtb online. What you have to know is: there are bike shops and there are bike shops. This here, is a bike shop. Or, this here is a bike shop. You can buy your bike here aswell. But there is a major difference between these two. The difference is simple. Bike-components is a simple dealer. They sell bikes from different manufacturers like Yeti, Santa Cruz, Scott and whatnot - they are selling them online, just like your local bike shop would sell them offline. They are selling them online and that’s about it. Canyon on the other hand is a manufacturer and a brand, which chose to sell bikes directly to consumer using their website. But you can buy the bikes only online and only on their website. That’s the major difference between the two. So in this regard it basically comes down to personal preference. What kind of brand do you prefer, do you prefer to buy it online, do you prefer direct-to-consumer or do you want to check it out first in a local bike shop? Whatever. What you have to know though: the direct-to-consumer tend to be either a little bit cheaper or have a little bit better components for the same price that a dealer-sold bike would have. So that’s something to consider basically. Topic number 2 that you need to know about: most probably you won’t be able to test ride your bike first before you buy a mtb online. That seems pretty obvious, considering that online shops are able to offer bikes cheaper specifically because they don’t have to maintain a brick and mortar presence. On the other hand, in most cases you also can’t really demo a bike in a brick and mortar store - if you’re lucky you can sit on it and do a few meters of riding out on the street in front of the store. Not exactly helpful when looking to buy a mountain bike. There are exceptions of course: bike-components for example, even though they are a pure player from the online space, just opened their first store in Aachen, Germany where they have a few bikes on display. And Canyon has an epic showroom in Koblenz, Germany, the city where their headquarters are located, which you can visit to test-ride all of their bikes in the parking lot. Topic number 3 that is absolutely crucial when you buy a mtb online: with a high probability you will have to assemble it yourself. Most of the time this is pretty easy. Just put in the handle bar, put the wheels on, install the dropper post and that’s about it - but beware: when you buy your mtb online and you get stuck in the assembly, there might be noone around to help you out. So consider this! And with that we’re coming to topic number 4: Service. When I first thought about making this video, I actually wanted to make a rant about the service issue, because it led to endless discussions with bike shop owners already, frustrating experiences with the Canyon customer support and overall a bike that got less service than it would have deserved. So, why not take the bike that you bought online to your local bike shop? --- On this channel I am showing you Europe’s beauty and diversity from behind the handle-bars of my mountain bike. My goal is to make everybody appreciate Europe and its people, landscapes and cultures more and bring us all closer together. Sometimes I'll upload bonus videos about bike maintenance and reviews, unboxings, how-tos of gear for riding, filming or navigating.
