EDIT: ACK found and analysed this video. He took a closer look at the replay and wrote a preliminary analysis about it. In short, Marisa's laser phenomena are caused by an unitialised variable, resulting in some pretty obscure glitches, such as a skewed laser, a disappearing laser and a fairy dying out of nowhere. MarisaA is well known to be a bad A shot compared to Reimu A and Sakuya A. What most people don't know is that this shottype has several bugs that can cause unfortunate desynchronisations in replays. This video features the exact same replay that causes a different outcome for each panel in the video. Player: InceRabbit, Marisa Kirisame, A shot Game: Double Dealing Character, DDC Stage: Stage 1 Pattern/Boss: Stage 1 section, Wakasagihime Difficulty: Lunatic Condition: Bug, Survival For simplicity, the top left panel is R1, the top right panel is R2, the bottom left panel is R3 and the bottom right paten is R4. Phenomenon 1: At 1:21, the blue fairy dies in R1 and R2. This is due to an unknown reason and this is why this replay was sent to me to begin with. Inceidentally, the rare laser glitch also occurs in R3, resulting in Marisa's laser not dealing any damage whatsoever. This can be seen when comparing R3 and R4: the big fairy on the left dies in R4 (in which the laser bug does not happen) but it does not in R3. Due to how the settings are in R3 and R4, both Marisas unfortunately die. Phenomenon 2: Another weird event is an unknown power item spawning at 1:22 below the big fairy, R2, R3 and R4. This doesn't appear to make any difference between R1 and R2, but there is a slight difference in score during the dialogue. This small difference in score is what could have caused the desync on Wakasagihime's first nonspell, final wave. This results in a desync on the first spell, which eventually leads to a game over on R2. Explanation phenomenon 1: There have been no reported cases of such an odd desync in DDC. However, such an event does occur in UFO, but that is only when a stage transition takes place after bombing as ReimuA. Therefore, it is unknown what could have caused this desync. Explanation phenomenon 2: This phenomenon too is unknown. Power items are supposed to come from the enemy and not from below the enemy. From my personal experience, I have never seen this issue. Furthermore, there have been no reported cases in which this event happens. Reproduction replay desync: R4: This is quite an easy thing to do. Launch DDC and watch the replay. There is an estimated 95% chance to get this phenomenon. R3: This is a bit of a tricky one to get. In order to get it, you must get lucky when launching the game. Once it is seen in the replay, it means that you can rewatch the replay and this glitch will still occur. This bug will not last if the game is closed. (Unsure if going into fullscreen reverts this bug.) The chance of getting this is about 2.5%. R2: This one is luck-based as well. Launch the game, fast forward to this section and see if the blue fairy ends up dying magically. If it doesn't, close the game and launch it again until the desired result is given. This has a chance of 2.5% of occuring. R1: This one too is 2.5%. When adding up all the percentages it is not equal to 100%. The reason behind this is that R1 can be replicated if R2 is reproduced. Reproducing R1 is not entirely known, but this is what set-up was used by me: 1. First, I check if the replay kills the blue fairy. 2. Then, I go to Game Start, Lunatic Mode, Marisa, A shot. 3. I beat Stage 1. 4. I quit the game and rewatch the replay. In step 4 I made it so Marisa was moving to the top right on the pause menu. I was still holding top right when I pressed "Q" on my keyboard. It is unsure if this plays any role in replicating R1, but the more you know. How did I end up knowing how to replicate R1? InceRabbit himself told me he reset before on Stage 1 but also on Stage 2 when I questioned him what he was doing prior to this replay. I followed his procedure and successfully de-desynchronised the replay. The replay file stores the same RNG seed as well as the exact same inputs hence the Touhou input display is only shown once.
