Dr. Rath Health Foundation's video: How Our Donation of Desks to Schools in Uganda is Changing Lives

This video illustrates how our donation of desks to schools in Uganda is changing lives. In 2014 we started a school gardening project in Uganda. The project involves growing fruit trees, vegetables, and medicinal plants, and teaching the children about nutrition. Our work is already beginning to change lives. But we still face many challenges. The rainy season presents particular difficulties. With many schools lacking basic facilities such as desks and chairs, the children’s education invariably suffers. For our project to be successful in the long term, we realized that it was vital to ensure that lessons could continue even during heavy rains. Ensuring the children were well fed with fruit, vegetables, and medicinal plants was clearly not enough. The children were certainly keen to learn, so we decided we had to do something to help. So we found a Ugandan carpenter who could build us some school desks. Eventually the big day came, and the desks were ready for delivery. What would the children’s reaction be? We would soon find out. The excitement when the desks reached the first school was beautiful to see and hear. (But we did worry a little about the guy sitting on the top of the delivery vehicle)! Our simple donation of school desks had clearly created a party atmosphere. The next job was to carry the desks and benches into the school. The children were happy to help! The party atmosphere continued in the classrooms. The other schools were also delighted with our donation of desks. It was truly beautiful to see the children smiling like this. Now the children’s lessons can take place even during the rainy season, and their nutritional training will continue to improve their health and help save lives.
