Rebecca A.'s video: Brendan Anderson 83 yard run on homecoming in Avon SD

"Sportsmanship at it finest." Two high school football teams in South Dakota took to the field on Friday night. Colome Cowboys and the home town Avon Pirates. The visiting Cowboys gave a senior from Avon battling Leukemia, an opportunity to play a down. He had missed the last two football season due to leukemia and the treatment. Brendan was diagnosed with AML Leukemia in July of 2014. He went through chemo therapy treatments that kept him inpatient for most of July through December 2014. His leukemia was declared in remission and was until it relapsed in August of 2015, just days before the start of football practice of his senior year. He went through another round of chemo and achieved remission. And now moves on to the University of Minnesota for a bone marrow transplant. This last week was homecoming at Avon high school. Brendan was allowed to come home. Our coach asked if he could suit up and walk out with the team. Our coach asked our opponent's coach if they would allow him one play for Brendan to get the ball and not have contact. He agreed and Brendan was allowed to run the ball. Here is his touchdown. We hope to have this sportsmanship recognized. With all we have seen nationally in high school athletics recently, it is certainly wonderful to see the sportsmanship exemplified here.
