The film is directed by Rupert Wyatt. It is a reboot of the Planet of the Apes series that will act as a foundation with an origin story for a new film series. Originally slated for a June 2011 release, it will be released in theaters on August 5, 2011. Cast James Franco is set to play a scientist working on a cure for Alzheimer's by testing on apes. When test subject Caesar suddenly begins to mutate rapidly, the scientist takes him home to remove him from the cruel lab doctors. Franco was cast after talks with former co-star Tobey Maguire broke down. Freida Pinto and John Lithgow joined the cast on June 22, 2010. Andy Serkis will play Caesar, the ape that leads the revolt. Tom Felton will also star as the human character Dodge. As of July 12, 2010, Brian Cox was in final negotiations to join the cast. According to his Twitter page, David Hewlett has also joined the cast, though he has not mentioned what his role in the film will be. Canadian actress Chelah Horsdal will also star as Irina. Filming Filming began in July 2010 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.Filming also headed to San Francisco, California, and around O'ahu, Hawaii. Special effects Unlike previous films in the series, the apes in the film will be created digitally using CGI technology, by Weta Digital. Release The film is set to be released on August 5th 2011. The first promotional trailer surfaced on the internet on April 14.
