Soonkie the pharmacist's video: What is Coronavirus COVID-19 Symptoms Diagnosis and Prevention MUST WATCH from your pharmacist

@What is Coronavirus COVID-19, Symptoms, Diagnosis and Prevention | MUST WATCH | from your pharmacist
The new Novel Coronovirus is originated from Wuhan, Hubei Province, China. It has some similarities to SARS and MERS that occurred not too long ago. So what are coronaviruses?  Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses, some cause illness in humans, and others cause illness in animals. Usually human coronaviruses stay among the human and animal coronaviruses stay among the animals. They do not cross infect and symptoms are usually tolerable. The problem starts when  animal coronaviruses evolve to infect and spread among humans, this is where severe diseases emerge, such as SARS the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome that happened in 2002 , MERS Middle East Respiratory Syndrome that happened in 2012 and today the novel coronavirus. There are still many unknown about the new coronovirus. One of the big differences with SARS is, the new novel coronavirus has an incubation period for up to 14 days. During this period, the person who caries the virus will not show any symptoms and some experts believe that, even though symptoms are not shown, the person carrying the virus can still  spread the virus to another person. What are the symptoms of coronavirus? Fever, Breathing difficulties such as breathlessness, Cough, Sore throat, Fatigue or tiredness In severe cases, the infection can cause pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome, kidney failure and even death.  What is the treatment for the novel coronavirus? There are currently no specific treatment for the disease.  Because it is a virus, antibiotics that are used for treating bacterial infection will not work and the few antivirals that we have on the market does not work on this specific virus. There is no vaccines to date to prevent it and it is up the body’s natural immune system to fight it. However, many of the symptoms can be treated, and treatment will be based on patient’s clinical condition. For an example, the fever can be treated with paracetamol or acetaminophen ; breathlessness,  salbutamol to open the airways and pressured oxygen etc. The doctor will assess the best treatment for each individual patient.  How is the virus spread? and How to prevent it? Person to person spread of the novel coronavirus is occurring, but it is not yet understood how easily this happens. Looking at the symptoms of the novel coronavirus, which is more respiratory symptoms, we can sensibly assume that the virus like a common cold and is transmitted through contaminated droplets of cough, sneezes, contaminated hands and generally occurs between people who are close contacts with one another.  A close contact is someone who has been face to face for at least 15 minutes, or been in the same closed space for at least 2 hours, with a person that was infectious.  The novel coronavirus does not appear to last very long on surfaces. The risk of this virus being present on imported packages or products is negligible. The best way to protect yourself is the same as you would against any respiratory infection. Practice good hygiene by: 1. Washing your hands regularly for at least 20 seconds with soap and water. If soap and water is not available, use an alcohol-based hand rub 2. Cover your nose and mouth when coughing and sneezing with tissue or a flexed elbow and dispose tissue safely into the bin and wash your hands afterwards. 3. Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unclean hands 4. Avoid close contact with anyone with cold or flu-like symptoms. 5. Thoroughly cooking meat and eggs. If you have symptoms. What should you do? If you have travelled to or transited through mainland China in the 14 days before your symptoms started, and you have a fever and respiratory symptoms, please call your doctor, or your local Emergency Department. Remember to call ahead before you rush in to see them. This is to allow them sufficient time to prepare for your arrival. Your country might have also already set up new novel coronavirus hotline, you can use that as well. You just have to google for the number. Tell the person when you call that you have been in mainland China. I hope these information is useful.
