MALINGERING IS A LEGAL CONCEPT THAT SPECIFICALLY REFERS TO THE ACT OF LYING TO AVOID SOMETHING OR MANIPULATE SOMEONE. Family lies are the worst to experience because of all of the chaos that is created because of them. But when your family is lying about their health - mental and/or medical health - in an attempt to manipulate, steal, cheat, deceive, or escape a punishment of some kind, you may have a malingerer. Narcissism and sociopathy is synonymous with malingering because the cognitions, emotions, and behaviors that need to occur in order for someone to carry out malingering can be both brutal and highly calculated.
