PBR confirmed in a statement that Mason Lowe, 25, died Tuesday after competing in an event at the Denver Coliseum's National Western Stock Show, but the organization did not detail the sequence or injuries that led to his death. Steve Castro, a spokesperson for the Denver coroner's office, told USA TODAY Sports in an email that the office did not have any information to release regarding Lowe's death as of Wednesday morning. Lowe was in his seventh season as a professional bull rider and ranked No. 18 in the world at the time of his death. He told PBR's website in 2016 that he always tried to bring a degree of passion to his competitions, explaining that "if you don't show a little bit of emotion, I mean, you are not fully committed." "If you don’t get a little bit mad (when you fall off), you are not doing it for the right thing," he told the website after winning his first event. "I know how good I am and how good I can be. When I get bucked off it kind of just fires me up." Bull riding is an extremely dangerous sport — PBR physician Tandy Freeman previously told USA TODAY Sports that he expects a serious injury in one of every 15 rides.
