This Cottonmouth Moccasin was bitten by the dog and as such was partially paralyzed. Even so, I do not recommend picking one up under any circumstances! Moccasins, also known as Cottonmouths or Water Moccasins, are fairly common in this part of the US along with the Southern Copperhead. Contrary to popular belief, they are not normally aggressive and certainly don't chase you. They are venomous however and a bite should be taken seriously.
