Vivian McGrath's video: Norma is free from abuse even after therapy failed her

@Norma is free from abuse, even after therapy failed her
There's one thing that bugs me about therapy. There are great counselors out there I’m sure, but then there are others who seem to want to keep you needing to rely on them for years. And how much does that cost you emotionally and financially? One woman I have worked with, Norma had been to therapy for ten years! She came to me in crisis and said her life was a mess as she struggled to leave an abusive relationship. Within just months she went from a terrified, powerless woman who put her needs second to everyone to a confident and happy one. She’s broken free from her abusive relationship and now living in a beautiful home of her own. She was afraid of the future and worried it was too late for her to ever find real love. Now, for the first time in her entire adult life, she looks forward to the future with great optimism. It was life-changing she said. All because we got to the root cause of how and why she ended up in abusive relationships in the first place. And healed her. Not just patched over the symptoms with a bandaid. In my opinion, there are 5 shifts that separate those who recover and heal from abusive relationships and those who don't. Norma is one of those lucky women who made these 5 shifts and changed her life. The first shift was that she stopped wasting precious time and energy on a man who abused her, let go of trying to fix him and focused on healing herself. Together we dug deep to identify the ways in which she was subconsciously sabotaging her life and find the root cause of why. It’s changed her life. Norma had had therapy for ten years. She told me she wishes she’d taken this step earlier. There’s a beautiful African proverb that comes to mind when I think of the power of mentorship: “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”There's one thing that bugs me about therapy.
