The sequel to 2015's Dying Light, the game was released on February 4, 2022 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. A Nintendo Switch version for the cloud is currently in development. The game is set in the city of Villedor, a massive urban open world set in Europe that players can explore freely. The map, which is four times bigger than the original game, is broken into seven distinct regions and each has its own landmarks and locations. When exploring the city, players can scavenge different scraps and resources for crafting new items and weapons. In the game, players meet different factions and settlements and have to make different decisions that would fundamentally change the state of the game's world and how non-playable characters view Aiden. The consequences are far-reaching, with the player being able to bring prosperity to a faction while completely destroying another settlement. Making certain decisions will open up or seal-off areas in the city, encouraging players to complete multiple playthroughs. Like its predecessor, the game features four-player cooperative multiplayer. Set 15 years after the zombie outbreak in Harran, protagonist Aiden Caldwall ventures into Villedor, the last standing city on Earth, as he embarks on a journey to search for his lost sister, Mia. In his journey, he would encounter different warring factions who battle for control of the city. The game opens with Aiden running out of a tunnel into the outskirts of Villedor, where he is greeted by Spike and walked through a tutorial. He meets a man who gives a him a key before being killed by bandits. Then, Aiden gets chased by zombies, barely making it out alive before nearly being hanged for not having a biomarker, a device that shows the progression of infection. He gets rescued by Hakon, an ex-nightrunner, who instructs him to retrieve a biomarket from a GRE hospital.
