I would skip the single-player part, as my channel focuses on multiplayer mostly. Multiplayer of Shogun 2 includes 3 different modes: classical battles, multiplayer coop campaign and Avatar conquest mode. Classical battles are pretty much the same as in previous games of Total War series - both player use available funds to compose an army and add veterancy points to their units. Multiplayer cooperative campaign is exactly what it sound like - competitive or cooperative campaign with a friend. Avatar conquest mode is a new addition to the TW series multiplayer and a main multiplayer mode of Shogun 2, which includes: Avatar (general) with 3 skill trees, customizable veterans, unit unlocks, retainers, clan competition and match-making system. Avatar conquest received some critique for creating an environment, that rewards dropping and requires veterans farming to play competitively. On a positive side, Avatar mode allowed to achieve a great variety of fighting tools in otherwise quite limited feudal Japan setting. Ability to upgrade selected stats allow to fine tune units for different uses and fill all price niches. For example, katana samurai can be scary killing machine with attack upgrades and sword attack retainers. Same unit can become quite sturdy with upgrades in defence and Renyo teaching retainer. Yari ashigaru is a nice cheap anticav/support/meatshield unit, which becomes a serious front-line force at level 9 with spear wall and hold firm. Rise of the Samurai is independent campaign for SHOGUN 2 set in 12th century Japan. RoS offers a separate set of units, that have fewer men and are cheaper than vanilla S2 ones. Most used RoS unit is probably Naginata attendants for being so cheap and quite useful as meatshields, dojo capper, anticav support and charge eaters. Total War: SHOGUN 2 - Sengoku Jidai Unit Pack DLC worth special notice as it features a variety of very useful units, namely: mounted gunners, daikyu samurai, wako raiders, bulletproof samurai and long yari ashigaru. All those units with a proper upgrades are very cost-effective and useful to the point of being called overpowered sometimes. Fall of the Samurai is the first stand-alone expansion for Total War: Shogun 2, that is set during Japan's Boshin War of the 1860s. Match making queue of FotS is separated from vanilla S2, but mixed games could be played. It is quite common assumption, that FotS is a game "about guns". Please, try not to fall into that trap - FotS is a bizarre mix of different mechanics that blend together rather well, when you take map design into consideration. Depending on the map, melee rush, cavalry heavy, line heavy and mixed armies could be used competitively. Light infantry, artillery and ninjas - they all have their situational use as well. Please note this is an unofficial video and is not endorsed by SEGA or the Creative Assembly in any way. For more information on Total War, please visit www.totalwar.com.
