@SOLOMON BURKE - has died age 70 - IN MEMORY
Soul, gospel and rock singer Solomon Burke died 10 October 2010 at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport. He was 70, born 21 March 1940 in Philadelphia. Burke, who was a Grammy winner and a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, had been due to perform together with the Dutch band The Dijk at the well-known club Paradiso in Amsterdam on Tuesday, 12 October 2010. Burke wrote the song "Everybody Needs Somebody to Love" in 1964 and it was quickly recorded by the Rolling Stones and Wilson Pickett, and later and perhaps most famously by the Blues Brothers. He also recorded the hit song "Cry to Me" for the movie "Dirty Dancing" Atlantic Records producer Jerry Wexler once called Mr.Burke : ''the best soul singer of all time''.
