Please check them out if you were interested in doing the Camino. However if you have 10 mins please check out this video of our experience. My adventurous wife asked me if I wanted to walk 100km with her....I thought how bad could it be? Mid way through, I was told it was actually 118km that we were going to walk following the routes that they laid out for us. The walk was one of the toughest things I've ever done, mentally and physically draining. The heat was crazy, the hills always appeared when you were already tired and the Rucksacks we were carrying were too heavy! I had a 12kg rucksack, possibly slightly more because of the 2litre water pouch and snacks. My wifes rucksack was about 7-8kg, which must be quite heavy as she's petite. Every step was painful and we were delirious on the last day that we had to walk 25km. The final day it took us 12 hours to get there. I know you're thinking why did you carry so much....my wife was adamant about carrying it the full way, she also said to bring the rain jacket as she was sure it would rain (northern spainish weather), also sleeping bags because of the Albergues we would stay in and a foldable pillow. I didn't need any of it... There were many pilgrims on the trip, some had walked far and some shorter but you could really feel a sense of belonging and community, everyone you passed on your way felt your pain and you felt theirs. We didn't really get to chat to many pilgrims but I wish I did to find out more of their stories. There was a surreal moment when we got to Santiago city and everyone suddenly wasn't a pilgrim. They were just getting on with their day to day....we did get there about 9pm so most pilgrims would have collapsed in their hotel by that point. The last day was the best day, we managed to meet the author of the guidebook that my wife was following. His name is John Brierley and he was doing a documentary with the BBC so I managed to embarrass my wife by marching up to him and asking him to sign the guidebook as well as get a selfie. I have no shame! :D I couldn't document everything, as I was tired I also just didn't have the energy so I stopped thinking about what to shoot and how to shoot it...I just remember thinking I just have to keep putting one foot in front of the other. To all the pilgrims that have completed it, a massive congratulations and to any one that is thinking about it....Do it! Buen Camino! Thanks for reading the description, I couldn't get everything across in the video but I hope it gives you flash backs of your Camino trip. BTW food is amazing in Spain! Grilled Octopus was the bomb!
