June 5, 2014 - Merkley-McConnell's industrial hemp amendment to the CJS Appropriations Bill. "Last week the House Commerce, Justice, Science Appropriations Bill, included not one but two amendments related to industrial hemp farming, and both of them passed with strong, bipartisan support. One of the amendments will come to a vote in the Senate Appropriations Committee on Thursday, June 5th. The limiting amendment applies only in states where industrial hemp research is already legal, and passed 246 -- 152 , 75 Republicans -- 171 Democrats. This amendment reduces harmful federal regulations, respects states rights, and simply requires the Department of Justice to comply with existing law."
