How Bollywood sets unrealistic expectations for the real world?

We all love watching movies, from action thrillers to comedy and from romantic to horror. We have grown up watching all sorts of movies. And Bollywood never fails to delight us, where nearly 2000 feature films are released every year!

Bollywood is pro in giving its audience  unrealistic expectations of the world, like, where are those schools we see in Karan Johar’s movies?

While watching a picture is fun and a great time killer for us, it also leaves an impact on us in some way or the other. We look towards the world from their lenses. We start imagining things from what we see. We develop a perception which gives rise to expectations. And these expectations might not always be true.

Here are few other such instances where bollywood films and reality were world apart:

1. Completely changing yourself for someone:

Do you remember watching Main Hoon Na?

Remember Sanjana used to like her friend Lucky who never saw her more than friends and one day she walks in with a complete makeover and voila Lucky was in love with her.

As a child we might have not noticed but after growing when you look at it, that was so stereotypical. She wasn't considered ‘unattractive’ because she liked wearing clothes that were apparently not feminine enough.

And who said you have to change yourself completely for someone to like you?

Who is deciding these rules?

.
.

Well we think we know the answer now...

2. Having a happily ever after:

And they lived happily ever after... If only after finding the one living happily was that easy. For a minute let us believe we found ‘the one,’ but maintaining that relationship is far more difficult than what is portrayed in movies. For instance take Bunny and Naina from Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani, he literally leaves his dream job for the girl he met in a wedding and had only few interactions. Sure we loved the movie but in real life, who would be willing to give up such a big dream for someone who you know is exactly opposite of you and wants exactly different things from life!

Yet, tragically, we believe it to be true, don't we?.

3. Portrayal of colleges:

Student of the year was a big hit. Alia Bhatt's closet was fab and she looked fabulous in each outfit. However, that isn't something we could have pulled off while attending a lecture on a normal day of college. Films like such have always painted a picture of a college life where students are carefree and enjoying life like there is no tomorrow. Ask a university student in real life and he will tell you about the tons of due assignments and the constant sleepless nights.

College life is fun but there are so many other aspects as well that bollywood movies usually fail to put light on.

4. Syncing dance steps:

This is something that I wish was true yet it's not!

Take any hindi film of your choice and start playing, there will come a song where the main character will start dancing and others in the background will join and start dancing in unison without even discussing the steps…..like how??

It is entertaining for sure but is far away from reality. It takes literally 1 week for us to learn a dance routine and they just simply start dancing on the streets with strangers.

Or is it how it actually is?

Are we living in the wrong world?

Guess we'll never know.

5. “Ek Ladka Aur Ek Ladki Kabhi Dost Nahi Ho Sakte” :

Dear Bollywood, please stop spreading such lies! Brush up your concepts on friendships.

A boy and a girl can surely be friends with no heartfelt affections for one another at any point in their friendship. It is definitely not true that one of them will eventually fall in love with the other.

But the good thing is our film industry is moving ahead and giving its audience a fair and authentic picture of the world. Many films are being produced such as Raazi, Ankhon Dekhi, Newton, Tamasha, Masaan, Dear Zindagi etc. We can call them real artistic work. Amazing concepts and deep emotions are covered and presented so well that will make us think again.
