Detroit's social problems first unravelled across the city in '67 but for Motown's management the west coast was now home ..the Venture Label was formed in late 1967 in Los Angeles by MGM as an outlet for their soul acts, run by former Motown A&R director William "Mickey" Stevenson with help from many other Motown exiles. The psychedelic soul influence of The Temptations is so apparent on this wonderful crossover soul side from The Ballads, later re-recorded by them in the 70's but without the edginess of the original.
