Tonite's firme' rola comes courtesy of Sonji Clay - south Side Chicago model, cocktail waitress, soul singer & celebrity 1st wife of Cassius Clay. Sonji released this crossover soul gem in 1969. She first met Ali through his manager, Herbert Muhammad, back when the champ was still going by his birth name - Cassius Marcellus Clay. They married just 41 days later, on Aug. 14, 1964. The couple had divorced by January 1966 amid conflict over Ali's increasing devotion to the Nation of Islam. Sadly Sonji passed in October 2005 from natural causes - a probable heart attack - she was only 59. Sad also that Ali's fists are silenced too, coz there's a certain guy in the White House now who'd make the perfect punch bag...lol
