Recorded by Chi-town soul group The Players’ lead vocalist Herbert Butler & the Dells - replacing fellow band members & the songs’ writers Collis Gordon & John Thomas, who were deemed not good enough vocalists in the studio - this prized lowrider soul 45, "He'll Be Back" laments the arrival of draft papers for young Americans and the impact of loved ones left behind. Originally issued on indie label Minit, this sweet soul tragedy dropped the same year as Minits’ upbeat stream of northern soul classic jams - such as The Diplomats (‘Honest To Goodness’), Homer Banks (‘A Lot Of Love’ + ‘60 Minutes Of Your Love’) & Shawn Robinson’s (‘My Dear Heart’) – all of which captured the hearts of brit soulies. Minit was swallowed up by major label Liberty, as to where countless latino men, sent to their deaths by draft boards, and estimated to be 20% of the total US casualties in this tragic war.
