In Spring of this year Arma dropped Vol. 3 on Bandcamp which featured the familiar sounds of French Montana’s ‘Shot Caller’ as made popular in the UK underground by Jammz & Jack Dat after it became one of the most played instrumentals in Grime sets and live shows throughout the scene over the past two years. Arma has applied his Funky and Jersey panache to give it a further revamp on his ‘If Its Nice Flip It Twice VIP’ which we simply couldn’t turn down despite not seeing the original. Arma, the 27 year old producer based in London started producing and DJ’ing in 2009 which is clear to hear in the quality of his output and the labels he’s released on. Taking a mass of inspiration from late 90s House, R&B and Hip Hop for sampling, combined with his influence from key pioneers in Bass music, Redlight, My Nu Leng, Notion and Jamz Supernova it’s no surprise to learn his release on Redlight’s Lobster Boy imprint in 2019 was his best accolade to date. 2015 saw ‘Vex’ picked up by Monki for Fabriclive 81 and an appearance on LA based label Juke Bounce Werk further bolstered his reputation seeing him pick up shows across the UK. From club level at the likes of Soup Kitchen (Manchester) to festival level at the likes of Southbeats (Kent) before the challenge of COVID shackled the music industry and its habitants in 2020. When most struggled for inspiration and productivity Arma embraced the challenge with a string of self releases taking advantage of Bandcamp’s focus on supporting artists via ‘Bandcamp Days’ throughout the pandemic building up his discography with high calibre originals and edits which he’s now reaping the rewards seeing Notion getting behind this release in particular at a variety of club shows and festivals alike, as well as his latest mix for Dummy Magazine.
