Be sure to watch until the end! Why are model organisms important? Why should we even fund this kind of research? There's a large discrepancy between how research using model organisms is viewed in the public eye vs. the eye of a scientist. With this video, I hope to illustrate both sides of the story - and I hope that you can take away how important it is to be educated about the context of people's actions before you make judgement. You've heard about some of these pet projects, they really don't make a much of a stance. Things like cerevisiae research in Paris, France? These projects do nothing for the public's advance. Man, I'd be lying if I said Research on fungi Is the same as Research on that guy I'm saying To study the cell cycle, regulation, DNA mechanisms? To use other organisms? What are you saying? Now, about this systems biology... Spending all day picking single yeast colonies? We're wasting time and money And they say... But what about all of the gene homology? Hey. It just makes beer man.
