木曽川水系と古城跡INDEX http://network2010.org/article/2108 苗木城は、遠山氏の居城として戦国時代に築城された。木曽川の右岸にあり、天守跡までの標高差は約170m。自然の地形を有効に生かして築かれた山城である。戦国の動乱の中で遠山氏は苗木城を追われるが慶長5年(1600)、遠山友政が城を奪還。以後、明治維新まで遠山氏が城主として治めた。
