@NFL Training Camp News Preview with: David P. Woods
Derek Carr now holds the title as the highest paid quarterback in the NFL for now. The $25 million per year in new money is the richest contract ever in the NFL, beating out the $24.8 million a year Andrew Luck got from Indianapolis. This will indeed hold true until Kirk Cousins and Matthew Stafford take their respective seats at the bargaining table at season’s end if a long-term deal cannot be reached before the start of training camp, later this summer. However, one thing it has clearly demonstrated the quarterback position is redefining the finances of the NFL these days and nothing appears to be bucking such a trend, anytime soon. With even marginal signal callers such as Mike Glennon cashing cheques for an estimated $15 million per year is this trend economically feasible and practical? Should we just accept this is the new cost of doing business in football when it relates to quarterbacks? Meanwhile, with a new season quickly approaching it brings with us a feeling of optimism to each NFL team. The sense of hopefulness and confidence about the future or the successful outcome of something. The sense of new opportunity and a chance to start the season with a clear consciousness ready to attack the year with unbridled enthusiasm. With the arrival of training camp at the end of the month hope springs eternal for everyone. The question becomes who is going to take advantage of their opportunity for greatness and who’s trending towards the top of the draft in April? Well the good thing about training camp is opinions or a view or judgment formed about something, not necessarily based on fact or knowledge can be wide ranging during this time of year and that’s what makes the start of any season so intriguing. Whose excited for the NFL season to kick off? Do you want the latest news happening around the league before the dog days of summer are set to commence? David P. Woods Senior Editor at theScore, Inc. joined 2Man Advantage Podcasts Kevin McShan on Monday, to discuss all the latest news around the league as we head into training camp.
