Here is a lookback at a sport which always reminds me of the knights on horseback jousting with each other, and trying to knock each other off - only this is so much faster and more exciting! Longtrack is quite similar in many ways to the more common "speedway" racing, particularly in terms of the bikes; but is much more exciting to watch as there are many more riders on the track at the same time in each race, plus the circuits are much more open and therefore faster - around 100mph at times. Also speedway is for solos only, whereas longtrack caters for sidecars also - and what incredible looking and sounding machines they are! The riders in this video are the very best in the sport and this is an international FIM event. This meeting is called "The Lincolnshire Poacher" and is held on a large farmers field which gets cut up pretty badly by the end of the meeting, and in heavy rain can become a real mudbath! Thankfully the weather in this video is glorious so no problems with mud - just clouds of dust! This video begins with a tour of the incredibly accessible paddock, before some practise action, then the rider parade followed by the one=lap shootout competition - fastest lap takes all! Then on to the main event, which is a series of heat races for points to determine who makes the final. Winner of the A final wins the event!
