The film was nominated for five Academy Awards, including one for Rooney Mara for Best Actress, and won one for Best Film Editing. Sony has stated that they may film the sequel, The Girl Who Played with Fire, back-to-back with the third installment, The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest, for a late 2013 release.
