~Mansion of Incorporeal Dolls~ It was a ghost mansion, forgotten deep in the mountains. Even though it's uninhabited, every night you can hear girls talking. Who is the master of the mansion...? Stage Story Summary: The source of the cold is coming from below the floors of this old mansion... is this were the culprit is hiding? R: "Ah, I see, you're the guard then!" B: "I hope you don't misunderstand me. It was you who hurt those poltergeists that I've created, right? I'm not really good at revenge and I don't like to do it but I can't help but feel .... Irritated about that." 7TC7's Comment: Interesting enough, the stage four boss is the owner of a mansion and the source of the hot springs malfunctioning is hiding below. This is almost one to one the plot of Subterranean Animism, many years before that game! This boss is probably the most well known part about this game, but she isn't actually all that interesting to fight. Her gimmick is that you want to destory familiars to clear parts of her patterns, but homing Reimu isn't strong enough to do that in most cases, so she'll just have to do them the hard way. Plot: It's a cold winter and everyone is feeling sluggish, so Reimu heads off to warm up at the hot springs... but the sluggishness and cold are not caused by the winter. They were the result of air stagnation because of abnormal weather over the last week. And that abnormal weather was not natural, it was merely a minor side effect of a powerful magic spell! The Alternative Age is the first Touhou fan game by the creator of Concealed the Conclusion, danmaq. I had never looked at this game until I had finished replaying CtC for my channel this year, but I was aware of it pretty much since I became a Touhou fan. The only things knew about the game before playing it finally were that the art is terrible (which I disagree with. It's actually pretty cute, in my opinion) and the identity of the Stage 4 boss, although I always thought she was the final boss. After playing the game, I can definitely see that this is by the same creator as CtC. The soundtrack is quite amazing and creates a wonderful atmosphere, which when combined with the stage backgrounds gives the game a very EoSD/PCB era feel. The choice of characters is interesting as well, and the bullet patterns are unique to say the least, although sometimes a bit frustrating. On Normal difficulty the game is all in all harder than CtC, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.
