Now, I'm not here to say that they shouldn't be taking those medications, but what I am here to say is that maybe there are some things that we can do to help these senior citizens out, help our over 60 population feel a little bit better without potentially having to take a bunch of pharmaceuticals. You see, when we look at arthritis, for example, 49% or more of senior citizens have an arthritis diagnosis, and then 75% or more claim to have chronic pain. There's a good degree of people that probably have arthritis, but aren't even getting diagnosed. What are some ways that we can combat arthritis, osteoporosis, and some of these other things that plague our over 60 community, like maybe high blood pressure, things like that? Well, I want to talk today mostly about CBD because CBD is obviously in the limelight a lot recently, but no one's really talking about the general health for our senior citizen population. So let's go ahead and let's break it down. First off, when we look at arthritis, CBD has a powerful effect on joint inflammation. You see, the way that it does this is it modulates something known as tumor necrosis factor one alpha. Now, that's a complicated term, but essentially two tumor necrosis factor one alpha is an inflammatory signal that can affect our joints. Now, CBD also affects inflammation within the joints in an indirect way, but at more of a master level. You see, CBD when it comes into our system, it affects what's called the endocannabinoid system and that causes the release of what's called anandamide. Anandamide is an endogenous endocannabinoid that allows us to feel good. It comes from the Sanskrit word meaning bliss. So not only does it help us feel good and probably give us a perception of being pain-free, but it also affects something known as nuclear factor kappa B, which is sort of the master switch for inflammation within our bodies. Inflammation is like the root of so many disease states. So if we can control this in our senior population, we can at least improve quality of life. Okay, so now let's go ahead and let's step into osteoporosis. Particularly in women, osteoporosis is something that can be very, very dangerous. Osteoporosis causes the weakening of the bones. It causes minerals to deposit in essentially the wrong areas, which therefore allows bones to become weak and brittle in other areas, usually where they're under load. Now, what's interesting about CBD is it activates something known as GTPyS, which ultimately does help us out when it comes down to osteoarthritis, because it stops the formation of what are called osteoclasts. Osteoclasts are these little mineral deposits. And what happens is these mineral deposits will draw bone tissue to them in order to grow. They're not like a tumor, but in a way you can kind of think of them as just an unregulated growth within the bone. And what happens is we get these dense pockets of osteoclast that'll draw the minerals and draw the actual tissue from the bone over to that area, causing a strengthening in one area, but a weakening in another. And that's unfortunately where the bone breakage occurs. So if we can stop these osteoclasts or at least reduce the formation of them, we can reduce the instances of osteoporosis. Now, let's talk a little bit about blood pressure.
