A Digital Blogger's video: 32000 Crore Scam with Govt of India Telgi Fraud Explained

After independence, India faced numerous challenges and one of them was recurring scams. There are many instances when politicians colluded with scammers and looted billions of rupees from the public exchequer. One such scam was Stamp Paper Scam masterminded by the late Abdul Kareem Telgi. Telgi a person with humble origins, was born in Karnataka in the sleepy town of Khanpur, Belgaum. His father and mother were class 4 employees at the railway station. His father died when Telgi was very young so to support his family he started selling fruits and other eatables at the railway station along with his siblings. He was clever and sharp-minded. After completing graduation in commerce he came to Mumbai for career opportunities and after wandering uselessly for a couple of days, doing odd jobs he headed to the Middle East which was a favourite destination for blue-collar workers then from India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. He was lazy by nature so always searched for easy money-making tricks. After spending considerable time in Saudi Arabia he came into contact with human traffickers who made forged papers of workers to make them eligible to enter middle eastern countries. Telgi colluded with human traffickers and made quick gains and even came in contact with the underworld. He came back to India and started his own travel agency to send workers to Middle Eastern countries. This business was quite profitable but due to his illegal business activities, he came into contact with Mumbai police frequently. Then in 1992, he was awarded a punishment for forging documents for passports and there he met a person who was in jail for the sale of fake stamp papers. Telgi came back from jail with the idea of earning massive amounts of money which would keep him in a league of the biggest scammers in India. He got a license for stamp paper printing and bought discarded printing machines from Nagpur Security Press and started his own illegal empire of stamp paper printing. He even hired retired officials of the press to learn about the right fonts, ink and printing technique. Also bribed printing press officials to know about the kind of stamp papers being printed in the press and even created an artificial scarcity of stamp papers by colluding with rogue employees of the printing press. Then in the year 2000, everything came off the closet. Govt was under public pressure, a SIt was formed to investigate Telgia and his empire. Even a Narco test was conducted on him. He revealed names like Sharad Pawaar, Chaggan Bhujbal and some biggies from the Mumbai police force too. Much is left to know about Telgi in the video so watch it at full length.
