ABAAD MENA's video: harrasment at work

ABAAD - Resource Center for Gender Equality welcomes the adoption of the International Labour Organization (ILO) treaty on Violence and Harassment in the world of work, accompanied with non-binding recommendation that provides guidance on the convention’s obligations. This a great step forward which will demonstrably enhance protection for all workers especially women, trainees, workers whose employment has been terminated, job seekers, and others in formal and informal sectors. The treaty also accounts for violence and harassment involving third parties, such as clients, customers, or service providers. Lebanon is one of the 59 countries - out of 189 - that has no specific legal provisions covering sexual harassment in employment, leading women to often experience discriminatory and exclusionary practices within their workplace. We hope that this convention would be the first step for call upon the Government of Lebanon to develop national laws aligned with global standards prohibiting workplace violence, to take preventive measures and to ensure effective inspections and investigations. ABAAD remains committed to fighting against all forms of violence against women and girls in Lebanon, and will continue to advocate for laws that protect women’s rights and enhance their participation in social, economic and political fields of society!
