Eat slowly and Chew your food (Saliva has digestive enzymes and 50% digestion happens in mouth by enzyme called Amylase. So if you don’t chew properly your body has to digest for you and you might feel weak after eating for the same reason.) Take small bites and Chew your food at least 32 times. 2. Include Probiotics and Prebiotics . Probiotics refer to the good bacteria in your gut and have a huge role to play in the complete digestion process. If there is overgrowth of bad bacteria in your gut then it can lead to poor digestion . In case you want to improve your digestion it is important to include Probiotics and Pre biotic s through Yogurt, curd, green leafy vegetables and fruits . To get rid of bloating you can also use a probiotic supplementing after consulting with your doctor. 3. Keep Changing your food sources. Do not stick to just one source as it can result in allergen formation and can cause chronic inflammation in the gut and lead to bloating, gas , constipation and irritable bowel syndrome. Example; For carbs keep changing between wheat, rice, oats, potatoes, bread For Protein - Whey Protein, Vegan Protein, Eggs, Fish , Chicken, Tofu, Soy Chunks For Fats - Ghee, Olive Oil, Coconut oil, Almonds, Cashews, Walnuts , Pumpkin Seeds, flaxseeds 4. Manage your stress levels . High amounts of cortisol can affect your digestion. Stress can lead to change in your gut biome, gut health and lead to poor digestion. Pranayama techniques (Breathwork) and Yoga is an effective way to reduce stress and improve your digestion forever. Also Reducing your mobile phone usage and white light exposure atleast 1 hour before bed can help controlling cortisol and help heal your gut and digestion. 5. Eat freshly cooked home cooked food as much as possible. Avoid packaged foods and junk food with preservatives, Artificial sweeteners etc. that can impact the gut bacteria in a negative way. This can have negative impact on your gut health and lead to poor digestion. 6. Wrong food combinations. Most people combine foods in the wrong manner. Combining nuts with fruits, fruits with grains, nuts with dairy etc can lead to poor digestion. If you want to fix digestion problems then stick to food combination chart given above. 7. Avoid drinking water after meals. Drinking water post a meal can lead to weakening of enzymes and acids in the stomach which can cause gas, bloating, gut issues and cramps. Drink water atleast 30 mins before a meal and 1 hour after a meal in case you want to improve your digestion and avoid bloating and belching. In the end you have to be consistent and patient with the process. If your digestive system is compromised it will take you atleast 1 month of consistency with your routine and habits to feel a significant change.
