Issei Hyodo (兵藤 一誠 Hyōdō Issei?, Issei Hyoudou) is the viewpoint character and protagonist of High School DxD. Introduced as a second-year high school student at Kuoh Academy, he has a reputation of being a pervert. Raynare, posing as Yuma Amano, goes out on a date with him. However, Issei realizes too late that the date was a trap set up by Raynare, and is fatally stabbed in the abdomen. After he is revived by Rias Gremory, he becomes a devil and her servant, where he joins the school's Occult Research Club. Ishibumi describes him as "a guy who loves girls and is really stupid". Issei demonstrates great potential as his resurrection required Rias to consume all eight pawns of her allotted team. Learning that he can assemble his own team in the future, he aspires to become a Harem King. He tries to protect and help his friends,some of whom fall in love with him, but while he enjoys their lustful affections, he hesitates to get serious with them because of the trauma suffered from Amano. As he progresses, he becomes a middle-rank devil,and acquires a familiar named Skithblathnir. Issei's main item in combat is the Boosted Gear, a Sacred Gear which initially takes the form of a gauntlet on his left arm. Rias reveals that the Gear is one of the Thirteen Longinus items;as it houses Ddraig, the Red Dragon Emperor. His abilities with the Gear include: Boost enables him to double his powers every ten seconds; Boosted Gear Gift lets him amplify his ally's ability;and Dragon Shot] fires a beam against his enemies. He can be promoted to use additional abilities associated with higher ranked pieces, either by reaching an opponent's headquarters during a Rating Game, or with the permission of the King. Over the course of the series, he becomes more powerful and acquires abilities and powers such as Juggernaut Drive,Balance Breaker Scale Mail,Illegal Move Trident (which allows him to be promoted without the restrictions); Dividing Wyvern Fairy and Longinus Smasher. He also has not-so-serious techniques that he uses against his female opponents including: Dress Break obliterates a girl's clothes after previously touching her; and Bilingual listens to her inner thoughts as if her breasts are talking. Pyrrha Alexandra (ピュラ・アレクサンドル Pyura Arekusandoru?, Greek: Πύρρα Αλεξανδρα) is Patroklos' sister and Sophitia's daughter who uses her mother's sword and shield which were made by her father, Rothion. Pyrrha was kidnapped by Tira when she was only three years old in order to torment Sophitia. She knows nothing about her past, other than the fact that everyone that was close to her strangely died, which earns her the title "Bringer of Woe". She was imprisoned after being accused of killing a nobleman's son who purchased her from a slave market. It was that time Tira appears and took care of her. However, her only reason on doing that is to make Pyrrha a new vessel for Soul Edge since she already knew that Pyrrha's body contained parts of Soul Edge's power. To charge up the demonic powers, Tira orders Pyrrha to kill people, promising her that she will take Pyrrha to reunite with her long lost brother, Patroklos. The two eventually reunite, but the influence of the Soul Edge manages to corrupt her, turning her into Pyrrha Ω (ピュラ・オメガ Pyura Omega?), with a deformed arm much like Nightmare's and wielding Soul Edge as a sword and shield like her mother did. Patroklos is unable to accept her form and later accidentally kills her during a duel, though he manages to revert the event by going to the past. After Patroklos' final confrontation with Elysium, Pyrrha pierces Soul Calibur with Soul Edge and returns home, having been accepted by Patroklos.
