ANTICONQUISTA's video: A Message From Indigenous Mapuche For ANTICONQUISTA

Giovanna Tafilo, a spokesperson for Mapuche spiritual leader Machi Celestino Córdova, shares a heartwarming message and call to solidarity for Mapuche political prisoners currently on hunger strike in Chile. There are over 1 million Indigenous Mapuche people in Wallmapu, the present-day nations of Chile and Argentina, fighting against the encroachment of their lands by transnational mining, logging, and hydroelectric companies. Machi Celestino Córdova, a spiritual and community leader, has served 7 1/2 years in a Chilean prison falsely accused of arson and manslaughter. Since May 4, 2020, he held a hunger strike from his cell to bring to light the struggles of the Mapuche people and demand his Rewe, an obligatory, yearly, spiritual ceremony each Machi must complete in their community and native lands. On August 2, Celestino won the right to complete his Rewe after 103 days of an extremely dangerous, and precarious hunger strike that greatly compromised his health. In July 2020, ANTICONQUISTA raised and sent $1500 to the inspirational Mapuche resistance in Chile. All of this has been possible because of your tangible economic support for ANTICONQUISTA.
