APMEX's video: What is Silver s True All Time High

Today’s video looks at the historical highs of silver prices, key events that shaped its market, and what it means for silver stackers today. Silver’s official all-time high is $49.45 per troy ounce, which occurred in January 1980 after the Hunt Brothers cornered the silver market and inflated the price by hoarding millions of ounces of silver. Adjusting for inflation, this is equivalent to $188.48 per troy ounce today. Shortly after, the price of silver collapsed when the Hunts Brothers were unable to meet a margin call. The 1980 all-time high isn’t an accurate representation of the metal’s potential, as it was a result of market manipulation. Instead, we look at the next highest price which occurred in 2011 in the aftermath of the 2008 Financial Crisis. During this run, many of the same economic factors were at play that we see today (silver shortage, inflation, bank failures, etc.) and silver reached $47.94 per troy ounce, or $66.94 today when adjusted for inflation.
