Varadharaja Perumal Temple or Hastagiri or Attiyuran is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu located in the holy city of Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu, India. It is one of the Divya Desams, the 108 temples of Vishnu believed to have been visited by the 12 poet saints, or Alwars.[1] It is located in a suburb of Kanchipuram known as the Vishnu Kanchi that is a home for many famous Vishnu temples. One of the greatest Hindu scholars of Vaishnava VisishtAdvaita philosophy, Ramanuja is believed to have resided in this temple.[2] The temple along with Ekambareswarar Temple and Kamakshi Amman Temple in Kanchipuram is popularly known as Mumurtivasam (abode of trio),[3] while Srirangam is referred to as: ‘Koil’ (meaning: "temple") and Tirupati as:‘Malai’ (Meaning: "hill"). Among the Divya Desams, Kanchipuram Varadaraja Perumal temple is known as: ‘Perumal Koil’. This is one of the most sacred places for Vaishnavites. The fourth of the Divya Desams that completes this series is Melukote--which is known as Thirunarayanapuram. Vaishnavites believe that visiting all four places without a break will guarantee one a place in paramapadam. This is one of 108 divyadesams.This is a very huge temple with excellent carvings and big halls with beautiful pillars.There is a tank near to the temple and beautifully carved 100 pillar mantap.People believe that touching golden lizard in the temple will get rid of the sins of touching lizards This is one of the main and big temples in Kanchipuram. This temple is for Lord Vishnu(Perumal). Perumal is in upstairs in this temple, so you have to go up by many steps(around 50-60 steps). It will be difficult for old aged people to go up. In this temple Perumal is in standing position and its a very old temple with nice architecture. Also there is a golden lizard in this temple. If you touch that your palli dosham will be gone. To touch that, you have to get 3 rupees ticket. Usually this temple is crowded on weekends especially on Saturday. Plan on a weekday and visit this temple in Kanchipuram.
