His father Santram moved from the village of Dhudiko to the roots of Nankana Sahib (now in Pakistan) where he settled the village of Kot Santram. It is now Santram Colony of Nankana Sahib. Bawa Nankana Bishan was born on 1st December 1877. During his primary education, he learned Gurmukhi and Urdu language. In search of employment and a good life, he quietly reached Burma (Myanmar) by train with 82 rupees kept by his mother Basant Kaur in 1895. He stayed in Burma for about 3 years doing hard work. Then he went to China and got a Chinese language certificate and worked in the police for 2 years. After this, he did military service in Singapore for 4 years and was discharged from the village through an urgent letter and reached San Francisco (USA) in 1904. There, he added several dollars and along with some other gentlemen took a thousand acre farm on contract and started the business of cultivating vegetables and selling houses.
