The battle was fought on 12 September 1897 at the site of Saragarhi on the northwestern border between 21 Sikh troops and more than 10,000 Afghan tribesmen. Saragari Samana is a medium village in Kohat district in the valley. It is located 35 miles from Kot and 50 miles from Peshawar. The area is also known as Waziristan, which is divided into two parts, Afghanistan and the British Frontier.
