Stephanie Millward was awarded the Para-Swimming Performance Athlete of the Year at the ASA Aquatics Awards 2016. She is one of the most experienced members in the para-swimming team, winning five Paralympic medals at the London 2012 Paralympic Games. At the beginning of her career Stephanie was on the fringes of the British international able-bodied team before being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis when she was 17 years old. She returned to swimming, qualifying for the Beijing Paralympics in 2008 and reaching three finals. In 2015 Stephanie moved to the National Performance Centre in Manchester to focus on her training and build up to Rio 2016. In Brazil, Stephanie added to her Paralympic medal haul by winning a further five medals in Rio: individual gold; relay gold; one silver; and two bronze.
