ATHENAMATS's video: Chris Rea - Jordan 191 Instrumental

@Chris Rea - Jordan 191 (Instrumental)
Chris Rea - Jordan 191, Instrumental B-Side, from "Julia" 1993 UK 3-track CD single including Julia, I Thought I Was Going To Lose You and Jordan 191. "Jordan 191" is a song based on one of the first Formula 1 cars designed for Eddie Jordans F1 race Team. Eddie is a big mate of Chris and they have occasionally played together (jamming) at F1 parties as Eddie is a drummer. Rea's story about the making of 'Jordan 191' is a testimony to his no-fuss impulsive streak: "Jordan 191' happened literally as a result of a phone call at about 3.10pm one day. I was asked 'Have you done the B-side yet?' 'Er, no I haven't!' 'Oh shit! 3.45pm is the deadline 'cause it's being printed at the factory tomorrow.' So I ask how long it'll take to get the biker over, and he says that the biker's on his way already. He'll be here at 3.45! So 'Jordan 191' was literally created and recorded within 15 minutes. I said 'For God's sake Martin, grab a hold of those drums and give me something.' I just picked up my guitar and went for it." "That was a quick session!" laughs Stuart Epps. "Chris tends to put things down fairly quickly anyway -- he doesn't hang around. He doesn't spend weeks and weeks poring over each note and vocal inflection. It's all about what he's feeling at that precise time. On this occasion, though, he just worked even quicker and we had all the machines ready for a quick take, mixing as we went along....--Stuart Epps-- Chris Rea, an avid car collector, racing driver, and mechanic, he has taken the opportunity to get involved in Formula One on a few occasions, including as a pit lane mechanic, changing Eddie Irvine’s right-rear tire during the Monaco Grand Prix too, in 1995. Such was his love for motorsport, and his technical know-how, that he ended up working in the Jordan garage during Ayrton Senna’s dual with Prost at Donington in the McLaren MP4-8. The Jordan 191 was a Formula One car designed by Gary Anderson for use by Jordan Grand Prix in its debut season in 1991. Its best finish was in Canada and Mexico, where Andrea de Cesaris drove it to fourth place in both races. Driving the 191 at the 1991 Hungarian Grand Prix, Bertrand Gachot took the fastest lap of the race. The 191 was the team’s first car, a perfect example of that special ‘spark’ that was the Jordan team, and now considered by many to be one of the most beautiful Formula One racers ever created. Looks aside, though, the mechanics of the 191 were equally impressive. Though the car was designed by only three people and built on a tight budget, the 191 allowed Jordan Grand Prix to claim the fifth spot overall in their inaugural championship. This unexpected performance would lead to the 191 picking up AUTOSPORT Racing Car of the Year Award, its co-creator Gary Anderson admitting that the accolade was equally unexpected, starting in 1991. Eddie Jordan was an Irishman who had achieved some success in British Formula 3 as a driver until he recognised he had reached the peak of his career and then set up a racing team. Jordan will always be known as the team that brought a ‘rock and roll’/fun attitude to Formula One during the 1990s, whilst adding some much-needed colour to the sport. His team, Eddie Jordan Racing (EJR), ran initially in Formula Ford and steadily progressed through the motorsport tiers. In 1988 EJR ran a pair of F3000 cars for Johnny Herbert and Martin Donnelly and the following year won the F3000 championship with Jean Alesi. Jordan then established Jordan Grand Prix with a view to entering Formula One and hired Gary Anderson to design his team's first Formula One chassis. Anderson had previously worked for Reynard and had designed that manufacturer's F3000 car. He would carry out design work on what was eventually designated the 191 in between F3000 racing weekends, during which he would engineer EJR's F3000 race cars.
